With an ADU unit going in the backyard, the already petite space was getting smaller. To create more functional space these social and friendly clients wanted to repurpose the driveway and essentially create a sideyard hangout. Great for meeting your neighbors. I was thrilled when they were on board with the turfstone driveway idea. For easy maintenance they went with the gravel infill and it turned out great. Including the driveway as part of the design is often overlooked but it makes such a positive difference. Not only can your driveway add to your design, but with the right materials, it can help slow rainwater runoff to the often overwhelmed city storm drains. The planting is new and has a year or so to mature but I think we did a great job maximizing this space and creating some lovely focal points.
